Prep school: Lancaster House (evacuated to Shiplake House). Subsequently obtained Corporation Scholarship to City of London School (thanks to money from Aunt Blanche). Army Service, then married 1950. Received into the Catholic Church 1954. Practised at the Bar 1953-1975, then Circuit Judge (Western Circuit) 1975-1991. From 1975 to about 1985 he sat as judge in the Winchester Group; thereafter he sat in the Bristol area. A transcript of his farewell speech from the Winchester Group gives an indication of the esteem in which he was held.

His cousin Sylvia sent me an amusing newspaper clipping, perhaps from the Southern Evening Echo, which recounts a less dignified occasion.
